At the age of 11, through no fault of my own, I was placed in foster care. I often felt like no one wanted me, and I worried that I would never find a family who would love me. I felt lost and alone.
My social worker often checked on me to see how I was doing. I still vividly remember the day she came to tell me that three families were interested in adopting me! She let me read their profiles and pick my favorite.
Two of the families were big, with lots of children. The third, Robin, was a single woman with no kids. Robin also was a preacher. I told my social worker I liked Robin. The next time my social worker visited, she said that Robin was still interested in adopting me! I was so happy and excited to meet her!
Meeting Mom
Robin and I met in May 2008. I thought she was super nice and sweet. We visited many times. I even stayed overnight at her home a few times. After spending some time getting to know her, I finally moved in with Robin.
Robin and I purchased matching jackets with “GOTCHA 11/21/2009” printed on the back to celebrate our finalization day. As we sat in front of the judge, he told us he had been following my case from the beginning. The judge looked at us and asked if we were sure we wanted to go through with the adoption. I started to cry when I said yes, because I finally found a family that loved me!
I am married now, and I have two children of my own. My mom taught me what it means to be a good mom, and she will always be my mom, no matter what!
